This year Christian Climate Action are going to be at the National Trust AGM. This is because The National Trust is a charity that banks with Barclays. Barclays is the biggest funder of fossil fuels in Europe. If we donate to a charity that banks with Barclay’s, our money is channelled into fossil fuel expansion. When a charity chooses Barclays, this also gives Barclay’s social licence and political influence, as it is presenting itself as a bank associated with positive causes – instead of one which is bankrolling climate collapse.
Where and When?
Where? The National Trust AGM is on Saturday 11th November, at the STEAM Museum, Swindon.
When? We will be gathering from 8am outside Heelis (National Trust HQ) and walking to outside The STEAM Museum soon after. We will leave The STEAM Museum at around 1:45pm
The majority of us will be outside the building in vigil. We’ll also be holding signs and having a pop-up prayer and poetry reading.
If you have a National Trust membership, you have the opportunity to be one of the people who can enter the building and potentially pose a question about their banking. Please know that for National Trust members, closing date for AGM tickets is 3rd Nov. However they will start allocating tickets from the 23rd Oct, so sooner the better to request a place inside the venue. Instructions on how to register can be found either in the below booklet, or the National Trust should have recently sent you an email saying how to register to be inside the building.
If you think that you would like to join us at the AGM, either inside or outside the building, please do get in touch by emailing christianclimateaction@gmail.com
What shall I bring?
Try to be well-dressed, especially if you are going to be inside the AGM – the National Trust AGM is a relatively smart affair.
If you’re going to be one of the outside team, please bring what you’ll need to feel comfortable outside. This includes weather appropriate clothing and footwear, a camping chair if you’ll need to sit down, some sustenance, a little sign if you would like to urge the National Trust to drop Barclays. Please know that there will also be ready-made signs for you at the AGM if you don’t bring one.

Accommodation and Travel to Swindon
Swindon can be a tricky place to get to for a lot of people, but we’d encourage you to explore options to be there. Please know that CCA can assist with travel costs if this is something that you’re not able to cover yourself. Please do get in touch on christianclimateaction@gmail.com if you would like assistance with this.
