Christians arrested during slow march protests

Three Christians have been arrested today for taking part in slow marches in London, as part of a Just Stop Oil protest. The protest is aimed to bring attention to the International Energy Agency announcement, that we can’t build new oil and gas projects, if we are to stay within safe limits of global heating.

Revd Sue Parfitt, 81 (below), retired family therapist and Anglican priest, said: ‘Today of all days after the Kings Speech moving us even further away from ending our addiction to fossil fuels we must make our opposition clear by taking to the roads again and saying ‘no new oil’. This is God’s creation and we must do everything in our power to preserve it’

Susie (below), 28, software developer from Bristol, said, ‘Jesus calls me to act and to not walk by on the other side of the road. When our government is causing suffering and violence the only right thing to do is to resist.’

Dave Mitchell (below), 62, retired software developer from Bristol, said, ‘I’m here because I have finally realised that climate breakdown is serious and happening now and I can’t stand by and watch. God’s creation is being destroyed by human action and I need to hold the people responsible to account.’

In CCA, we are aware that people have differing opinions about what is the most effective strategy to bring about the change we need to leave a liveable planet for our children. Many think actions like this are too disruptive, while others believe that softer actions will not create the change we need. We hold these tensions together and respect each others opinion.

Media outlets after the action appeared to focus on the blocking of an ambulance. Below are what Just Stop Oil put out after the action on their social media channels
