Double your donation to CCA! Help us raise £10,000

NB: THIS CAMPAIGN HAS NOW ENDED. DONATIONS MADE TO CCA AFTER WED 2ND OCT ARE STILL WELCOME BUT WILL NOT BE MATCHED.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVRYONE WHO DONATED.

We’re very excited to say that, due to a kind anonymous donor, all donations made to Christian Climate Action between Wednesday 18th September and Wednesday 2nd October 2024 will be matched, up to a maximum of £5000.

Why donate to Christian Climate Action?

Christian Climate Action is the only movement of Christians in the UK responding to the climate emergency with prayerful non-violent direct protest and civil disobedience. We’re a movement of people making a real difference. Many of us feel anger and despair over the climate emergency but we also feel hope:

  • Hope in a God who promises to be with us in both the good times and the bad
  • Hope in Jesus, the ultimate rebel who broke the laws of his time and place repeatedly to bring about the Kingdom of God on Earth
  • Hope in a God who made the ultimate sacrifice for the whole of creation and, in the process, beat death once and for all
  • Hope in a God who calls us to work alongside him to redeem creation

How can you donate?

To make sure you donation is matched, please donate in one of the following ways:

If you donate straight to our bank account, we won’t have to pay fees on your donation to Chuffed.

What will we do with the money?

CCA is a movement of people, just like you, who pour their time, prayer and passion into prayerful climate protest. A lot of our funding comes from individual donors who kindly give their money to cover the financial costs of what we do.

  • We are primarily volunteer-led, but, currently, five freelancers (aka the Admin Team) spend a total of seven paid days per week doing some of the behind-the-scenes jobs that have to be done to keep us going. From answering emails and supporting our network of local groups to growing connections with other protest groups and helping people who haven’t traditionally taken part in protest overcome barriers to doing so. One of these seven days is currently funded by a grant. The other days rely on donations from individuals. Funding this team is our biggest cost by far.
  • For many of our actions we spend money on equipment such as material and paint for banners. We aim to be inclusive, so when travel or accommodation costs are a barrier to people taking part in our actions we help cover those costs whenever we can.
  • Our online meetings are held on a paid-for Zoom account and our newsletter has so many subscribers we need to use a paid-for service to send it.

How are we making a difference?

Here are just a couple of examples.

Stop Rosebank. Since May 2024 our striking red Stop Rosebank banners have appeared in lots of locations – inside Labour HQ’s lobby, on the streets and, most famously, on the television the day after the general election when some of our members decided to take it to Buckingham Palace as both the outgoing and incoming prime ministers visited King Charles.

The result? Just a couple of weeks ago the government announced it would not defend a court case being brought against them by Greenpeace. This is an important step in making sure Rosebank – a proposed major new oil and gas field off the coast of Scotland – doesn’t happen. If it goes ahead, Rosebank’s oil and gas would produce more CO2 than the 28 poorest countries do in a year.

There are still more steps to take to stop Rosebank – your donation will help us.

Tackling Barclays. Over the summer we visited almost 50 National Trust (NT) locations to ask the NT to choose a more ethical bank. Currently the NT banks with Barclays, the largest funder of fossil fuels in Europe. We’ve also been encouraging churches, dioceses and Christian charities to switch from Barclays to a more ethical bank. Read more.
