“When Lord did we see you in prison and visit you?” (Matthew 25)
There are many who are now in prison due to climate protests they have carried out or taken part in. These people have chosen to sacrifice their liberty and time with loved ones, in order to stand up against the evils underpinning climate catastrophe. We cannot visit them, as visits are precious and need to be kept for family members and close friends, but we can write to them.
You can see the list of the names of all climate activists currently in prison HERE
If you feel able to write to any of the people currently in prison for climate protest, please know that it makes a huge difference to their experiences inside.
You will see that the list of prisoners, also includes addresses to send the letters to – or some of them have email addresses which can be used instead.
Getting your Church to Join in
Writing to those in prison can be a meaningful and moving activity for churches or small groups to do together. Some people are inviting their churches to write to activists in prison and are then collecting the letters and sending them on themselves.
